Het verhaal van Louise, een Française, die zich in de Tweede Wereldoorlog nadat haar echtgenoot is vermoord aansloot bij het Franse verzet. In May 1944, a group of French servicewomen and resistance fighters are enlisted into the British Special Operations Executive commando group under the command of Louise Desfontaines and her brother Pierre. Their mission, to rescue a British army geologist caught reconnoitering the beaches at Normandy, and to kill a German SS colonel who is close to figuring out the imminent secret of D-Day, proves to be emotional and brutal. The story is inspired by the accomplishments of decorated SOE agent Lisé de Baissac.

A must see movie for so many reasons., - 10 July 2008

Whereas a lot of films and television over the years has made war seem a very one-sided affair and concentrated on things from a very male point of view, very few have dealt with the roles that women had played.

Set during world war II Female Agents tell of one such group of agents on a mission for the British government behind enemy lines in France in 1944. The mission, to rescue a British geologist who was caught on the beaches of Normandy, the information he has is crucial to the success of the D-day landings.

Also there is an SS colonel who is intent on cracking the geologists riddle and thwarting the allied attacks who must be killed no matter what the cost. Assembling the group a brother and sister team chose girls because of their backgrounds and skills and after a one day refresher course in field skills they are off.

From this point on the film thanks to the story (based in truth) the acting (universally brilliant) and the cinematography (breathtaking) grips like a vice and doesn't let up until the credits roll.

Challenging and at times brutal it shows in very real terms what people went through and what they sacrificed to bring down the evil Nazi regime. It shows us a time that although we don't want to remember we should never forget and this film is a fine example of the heroic work done by individuals that eventually secured our freedom as a whole. A must see movie for so many reasons.

Engagée dans la Résistance française, Louise s'enfuit à Londres après l'assassinat de son mari. Elle est recrutée par le SOE, un service secret de renseignement et de sabotage piloté par Churchill.

Dans l'urgence, on lui confie sa première mission, l'exfiltration d'un agent britannique tombé aux mains des allemands alors qu'il préparait le débarquement sur les plages normandes. L'homme n'a pas encore parlé mais le temps presse. Louise doit d'abord constituer un commando de femmes spécialement choisies pour les besoins de l'opération. Pour le recrutement, tous les moyens sont bons : mensonges, chantage, remises de peine. Elle engage Suzy, danseuse de cabaret qui excelle dans l'art de séduire les hommes ; puis Gaëlle, chimiste, spécialiste en explosifs ; enfin, Jeanne, prostituée, capable d'assassiner de sang froid.

Parachutée en Normandie, elles sont rejointes par Maria, juive italienne, opérateur radio et dernière pièce du dispositif. La mission commence bien mais se complique très vite. Contraintes de retourner à Paris, le SOE leur fixe un nouvel objectif, presque suicidaire : éliminer l'une des pièces maîtresses du contre-espionnage nazi, le colonel Heindrich. L'homme en sait déjà trop sur les préparatifs du débarquement.

Cinq femmes, loin d'être des héroïnes, mais qui vont le devenir.
