The Rift (Endless Descent) is a 1989 film directed by Juan Piquer Simón and starring R. Lee Ermey involving a submarine rescue that goes awry. It is one of many underwater-themed movies released around 1989, including The Abyss, Leviathan, Deepstar Six, The Evil Below and Lords of the Deep.

Plot: An experimental submarine, the "Siren II", with an experienced crew is sent to find out what happened to the "Siren I", mysteriously disappeared in a submarine rift. Things go awry when they begin to find things that should not be there...

Review: If you liked films like The Abyss, Leviathan, Aliens etc., etc., this is a good film to have in your collection. I saw it and liked the special FX. It is not a big budget film, but the in FX department - it's outstanding. The script is good and the cast is decent, notable stars being Jack Scalia[Pointman], R. Lee Ermey[Full Metal Jacket], Ely Pouget[Death Machine],& Ray Wise[Robocop].
